Illinois Liquor Tax Increase Effective Sept. 1: Just Grapes to the Rescue!

Published by at 8:50 AM under Uncategorized

The Illinois state legislature has voted to increase tax on all alcoholic beverages–and soda pop and candy–in order to close a gaping budget shortfall.

The tax currently paid on a bottle of wine is 13 cents per bottle. Effective Tuesday, you’ll see that jump to 28 cents a bottle. Tax on a six-pack of beer will go from 10.4 cents to 13 cents. One fifth bottles of distilled spirits will see the biggest hike, with the tax jumping from 90 cents to $1.71 per bottle.

Just Grapes knows that, in times like these, your glass of wine with dinner or six-pack of beer with friends while watching the Bears game are luxuries you look forward to, and this is why we strive to keep prices on all of your favorite items affordable.  We will continue to offer dozens of wines under $15 a bottle, great beers at prices you can swallow, and a terrific selection of fine spirits without skyrocketing mark ups.

Savvy Sippers should stay tuned to their inboxes for an e-mail about a forthcoming special sale at Just Grapes. Don’t forget, any day you come into Just Grapes and buy six or more bottles, you’ll save 10% off your entire order. Additionally, all wines on our enomatic tasting machine are 10% off by the bottle.
