Please join Katie Sauer of Legacy-Spirits this Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 2 PM – 4 PM for a wonderful tasting of select spirits sampled as fruit “smashes” with seasonal fruit, mint, ginger beer and citrus.
Willa Vodka, Nantucket, MA
A perfect blend of Italian organic grain and the deep glacial waters of Nantucket’s pristine aquifer. Willa is lower in proof and calories than other super premium vodkas without sacrificing flavor and quality. It is smooth, creamy and complex with a beautifully clean finish with optimum viscosity.
Jensen’s Gin, London, England
Much more approachable than standard issue London Dry. The nose has a very strong juniper aroma. On the palate, it is very clean and soft and again, juniper dominates. The liquorice is also noticeable, alongside a grassiness with tingling spice. The silky-soft texture makes this easy to drink neat.
Koval Bourbon, Chicago, IL
This is an organic, single barrel bourbon with the requisite mash bill of at least 51% corn, but instead of the usual rye or wheat supplement, it includes millet, a gluten-free ancient sustenance grain. This renders a soft whisper of vanilla throughout. Then harmonizing, the grains sing with the sweetness of apricot custard. This pair finishes with peppery caramel, a diminuendo into a wisp of clove-spiked tobacco lingering on the tongue.
Smooth Ambler Old Scout Rye, Maxwelton, WV
Sale: $44.99 /bottle
This is a part of the Old Scout line of whiskey that is a “merchant bottle”. It’s a 7 year old whiskey using a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. You’ll see the sweet and smooth character while it still retains the spicy and bold notes for which all good ryes are known. Black tea, honey, baking spices and a bit of mint make this a powerful whiskey that’s enjoyed neat or stands up well in a cocktail.
